NFC Payment SIM Redesign
« on: March 12, 2020, 12:24:29 pm »
I've got a Barclays pingit device which is a neat little contactless card, designed into a standard SIM form factor to fit into a variety of wearables etc.

My goal is to remove the chip from this plastic substrate and wrap a new coil into a ring (to wear), however...

As you can see from the picture, this might not be so simple. Although I could snip out the center of the card and rewire an antenna, I can't actually see any bond wires on what I assume is the IC and I can see some microstrip-looking components (gap and pads) in the space inside the coil. Thanks to this I'm not sure what must stay and what can go.

Can anyone with some experience around this shed some light on how I might get it working? All I want to do is get this card trimmed down as much as possible, so I can fit another coil.

Cheers!

Death, taxes and diode losses.
