I vaguely remember there was some open source (?) project to design/create/build your own 3D printer. Could someone please suggest the project?

joint the club http://forums.reprap.org/ (http://forums.reprap.org/) and you'll have lesser and lesser time than you can imagine...

Sounds like a lot of work though? As a parallel imagine if your Laser Scanner/Copier/Printer from Amazon arrived in bits and you'd have to put it all together including controllers for the lasers, the mirrors, the sheet feeders, then write the software for those MCUs etc

My local MakerSpace has several slightly modified Prusa I3 printers. Nice machines, solid and good print quality.
