Title: Part wanted: Small, easy to use motion detector IC?
Post by: con-f-use on August 31, 2013, 04:59:23 pm
I'm looking for a small easy to use motion detector IC to couple to a micro controller. It should be able to detect if a human is moving within a very small room. I have never used such a component before so I'd be happy about some suggestions. Thanks in advance.

If the room is fairly small you can use ultrasonic http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arduino-Ultrasonic-Module-HC-SR04-Distance-Measuring-Transducer-Sensor-HS-/111147070142?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19e0e1b2be (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arduino-Ultrasonic-Module-HC-SR04-Distance-Measuring-Transducer-Sensor-HS-/111147070142?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19e0e1b2be) and bounce the sound in the first wall (at least in my brick wall the distances add up at 90%, so it makes a 'z' pattern to detect movement)

I think these are standard in alarm systems for motion detection.

I've used the Panasonic pirs as well they are very nice , take up a very small amount of current
to work ( they have versions that work with  1uA)

Digital and analog out versions.

However they are not cheap from 20 to 30 euro.

check out a board i made with these.

Thank you so much people. I guess I'll try the cheapo china ware sensor first. It that doesn't work it's gonna be the panasonic.
