Hi,
I'm making custom USB macro keyboard with around 40 keys and want to RGB it (48 RGB leds – 144 leds total).
I need some help calculating current: lets say one >RGB< LED takes 0.056A@3V, so all 48 RGB will take ~2.7A, in total a bit over 8W, is my calculations OK so far?
As to my knowledge USB2 can provide max 0.5A@5V, that is 2.5W.
Obviously I need to multiplex them, currently my plan is to use 3 * TLC5940PW and control only 16 RGB LEDs at one time.
16LED * 0.056A * 3V = 2.7W – still too much power, but I can lower each LED current with TLC5940PW resistor, cos I thing I'll have enough brightness even while multiplexing? Is my approach optimal or is there a better way to do what I want?
Other thing I try to figure out: I need 3 PNP transistors for multiplexing as well, is there a reason why I shouldn't use these mosfets?

LEDs I'm planning to use:
