Hello all!  I have been lurking here for a while.  I thought I would post a project I have been working on.  I call it the FruitStand.  The name is largely Raspberry Pi influenced, however its just as much for smaller boards like the Arduino.  Basically it gives you a nice sturdy place to pop your boards in an out of.  I just launched it on Kickstarter.com, but I really would like some feedback for you all.  I have attached some pictures of it on this post.

Each FruitStand will have 2 spots on it, you can use it for breadboards and microcontrollers.  I am targeting $40 for them with 2 plates... 1 breadboard and 1 Arduino (no Arduino of course).  Do you think this is too much?

Thanks,
Ben

Do you think this is too much?

Since you asked, the answer is yes, its way too much expensive.  :palm:

What do you think is a fair price?  And more importantly, would you even buy it?  What if it was $25?

For a plastic tray that holds things? $10 maybe. Not to be harsh, but I already have a desk, tape, a heavy pair of pliers to set on that heavy cable, etc. "Holding stuff" is a solved problem that doesn't require a novel solution.

As soon as you produce that, it will be available from HK delivered to your door for something like $5 mail cost included

Agreed with everyone above. $40 for a slab of passive plastic (not even ESD safe --- quite the opposite in fact --- or anything special) is way too much. A regular 'duino or RPi doesn't even cost that much!

It's a free market; I think someone should be able to pay $40 for one if they want to, but you're not going to get many buyers at that rate.

If you want to add some value added features, maybe make a breakout board for the GPIO with screw terminals, and a in line power switch for the power (since the pi doesn't have on/off)?

These guys on Tindie with https://www.tindie.com/shops/built-to-spec/beaglebone-holder-with-hardware/
and https://www.tindie.com/shops/built-to-spec/frdm-kl25z-sled/
and https://www.tindie.com/shops/built-to-spec/raspberry-pi-sled/
offer something similar for 6-9 $ (depending on the board).

(Disclaimer: I just happened to have a first look at Tindie)
