| Powering HDMI Audio Extractors vs HDMI-VGA-Audio Converters |
| (1/1) |
| Koray:
Hi all, I have a Google Chromecast device with a single HDMI output which I want to use with a HDMI projector. Unfortunately the projector has no audio output and I have no way to get sound out of such system. When I search for in-line HDMI Audio Extractors I only find tiny USB powered items at around 10USD range, but when I search for HDMI-VGA Converters (with audio output) I find self powered in-line adapters for about 2USD price range. Price is not important, but I don't want to complicate the setup with an extra power cable for the audio extractor. Here are some questions: * What is the difference? * Why can't they build cheap and simple audio extractors without audio output? * Can I re-purpose an audio capable in-line HDMI-VGA converter to HDMI audio extractor? I am attaching two sample devices for reference. K. |

Have you considered opening up the projector and rewiring the speaker output to external speakers? |

The projector has no audio. I wouldn't do that anyway, I can just use a powered audio extractor. But I wonder if the HDMI VGA cable can be converted into a HDMI bypass with audio output? K. |

HDMI operates well into the GHz and the only proper way to split it is to use active circuits. You might manage to get away with a parallel connection for such a short distance, but HDMI is fine pitch enough that I wouldn't consider it trivial to solder. |
