Precision capacitor

(1/1)

ricko_uk:
Hi,
couple of questions...

1) is there such thing as a low noise capacitor? If so what type?

2) separately, I am looking for capacitors in the range 10nF to 100nF (10V) with the tightest tolerance and thermally as stable as possible (but very tight tolerance has the priority). I am aware of C0G/NPO at 1%, is there anything better?

Thanks

Colt45:
If you want better than 1% you want a standard and not a capacitor.

If your circuit needs better than 1% perhaps you need to rethink it a bit.

Try silver mica, though unlikely to find better than 0.5% in that range. (and anything bigger than a few hundred pF will be expensive!)

If you can wait 2 months, you can get the long awaited TAoE x-Chapters.

According to https://x.artofelectronics.net/the-book/table-of-contents/ the section "1x.3 Capacitors" will probably have usefiul information. If  you can't wait for that, there is useful info in TAoE.

Gyro:
Is this a one-off or quantity requirement (from the context, I'm guessing one-off).

You can still pick up former Soviet era hermetic close tolerance Silver Mica and Polystyrene caps on ebay for relatively little money, and in larger values than you can find here.

So, you think an accurate capacitor is the solution to your problem. It may be, but if we knew your problem, we might be able to suggest better solutions....

In other words, don’t ask “Can you give me a lift into town?” Do ask “Can you give me a lift into town, so I can replace my broken frobnitz?”. The answer might be “There’s a spare frobnitz in the attic”, thus saving time, money, the environment – as well as making some space in the attic.
