Purpose of shorted CT through PCB?
(1/1)
mluna:
I was fixing an online UPS (APC brand), in which I came across this CT (ct2), shorted through the PCB on its primary. I wonder what's the purpose of doing this if there's no way current flow trough it so it can be sensed.
ahbushnell:
Good question. Maybe the current divides between the trace and the transformer? This allows a smaller transformer?
Someone:
PCB trace as shunt.
David Hess:
Based on using all of the connector pins, the traces will operate as a shunt resistance across the current transformer.
