Title: Reading a Russian datasheet - IGV1-16 / GIPS-16 matrix display
Post by: ledtester on April 25, 2022, 03:21:45 pm
On ebay I see listings for GIPS-16 / IGV1-16 nixie matrix displays such as:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/224643685691 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/224643685691)

You can find the datasheets on this page: https://www.spark-tube.com/datasheets/ (https://www.spark-tube.com/datasheets/)

GIPS-16:

IGV1-16:

I'm wondering how they are supposed to be driven. I can make out the seven anode lines and some cathode lines and it appears some rather high voltages are required but that's about it!

One of the main things I'm trying to figure out is how the multiplexing of the 111x7 matrix is organized. Any ideas?

It looks like a thyratron style display (similar in some ways to a dekatron / counting tube). Where the vertical pixels are fed in at one end, via the 7 anodes and then the glow discharges are physically shifted or persuaded along the display using properly shaped synchronised pulses on the other electrodes. Clever engineering.
