Recommend me some logic sim software please!
« on: August 07, 2013, 05:22:14 pm »
Preferably free/open source, though if it's reasonably priced and very good I am not a complete Scrooge and will pay if I have to. I want to be able to simulate behaviour of most standard parts, and also things like the 74138/139 and 4051.

I am currently using the "squared paper and a pen" technique and while I think I'm getting closer to a solution it takes a loooong time.  :palm:

You can try ViaDesigner mixed signal simulation software.

ViaDesigner.com

Also check out some application examples at community.viadesigner.com

Use the coupon code AMP100 and you'll get a free one year license.

get altera quartus. even though it is an FPGA tool it has a schematic editor and has a library with all 74xx chips and all basic gates and flipflops.

wire em up and simulate to your hearts content. just grab a version that is older than 10.3 as they removed the waveform based simulation in later versions and you need to use modelsim (which is harder to grasp for a beginner )

www.altera.com

it is free ( but a HUGE download at multiple gigabytes)
