I am thinking of treating myself to a bench power supply, it about time, i had so many situations that would have made things easier if i had a bench power supply. Anybody can recommend a quality power supply that cost around 150$

The Korad KA3005P or -D model. Discussed widely on these forums.

That really is some cheap and well reviewed product. Do you know what the usb/serial port at the back does?

It allows you to control the power supply from a computer. Very useful for automated testing, for instance.

What is not cool is reports of this Korad PSU overshooting at turn on and causing damage to your attached devices.

Yep, we looked at these, and similar, models when searching for lab PSUs for the school lab we were building. Would not trust this type of stuff with my students.

In general, the performance (or lack thereof) of anything under 300 USD was the reason we took a week to design and build them ourselves. Although we did find a few good units (mostly HP stuff) on flea-bay for under 300 USD, we required 12 units of the same model and could not get that quantity unless we bought new expensive units.
