Reverse engineering of LCD driver die
(1/1)
Leonhard Bandilla:
Hello,
I have a project where I have to reverse engineer a PHR803-T laser pickup head from a HD-DVD (predecessor of Blu-ray). I have basicly everything I need, but there is still a small 12 segment LCD in the path of the laser that they use for some kind of optical aberration correction. It has a small piece of silicon on the flex PCB that takes the twelve signals from the LCD and somehow processes them and it puts out what I think are 4 data lines (maybe SPI) and PWR and GND. While reverseingineering it came loose as it wasn't soldered but directly bonded to the flex PCB. It took a look at it under the microscope and I have made some photos using a camera I just held to the eyepiece of the microscope. There are a lot of identical elements and what I think is a OTP, so maybe it is a PLD? I would really like to know more about this IC, maybe someone has experience in this or can help me analyze it. I think if I want to get even more information, I'll have to get a HD-DVD player with the pickup, but maybe someone can get some informations out of this photo. I have more photos, but this one is the best of them.
