Ring Steplight
« on: March 03, 2020, 02:04:56 am »
One of my Ring steplights recently stopped working. I decided to take a peek under the hood. I was shocked at the lack of quality. There is flux residue all over and poor soldering left and right. For a mass consumer product I expected much better. They kept the SWD debug header for the Nordic nRF52 micro. I’m going to see what I can pull out of it. They left the standard Nordic UART over BLE services active too. Seems like a “don’t care if it’s ready, start selling it” scenario.

It looks fairly decent quality for a mass manufactured consumer product. I've seen much worse before. Big solder blobs and loads of flux is fairly standard for cheap consumer electronics.

Do you have any more information such as the make and model number?
