RS485 signalling characteristics - collisions

Simon:
If I was operating a multi master system I would probably time slot it which will be my suggestion on the upcoming system at work should we have the need. As I have seen suggested elsewhere giving each node an Id that is also a time point for each device to spontaneously transmit. A regular transmission from the master can reset the clock so that drifting clocks are not a problem.

I am slightly peeved that on SAMC the UART mode does not support activation by address recognition like the SPI mode of the same serial hardware does (SERCOM).

Although the SERCOM in UART mode supports lin master it was not even thought of for a slave device as again address recognition would have been very useful.
