RTB 2004 Battery Mod

I was wondering if there is a project / mod adding a battery to the RTB 2004 oscilloscope?

There is a lot of space in there and it would be very usefull to me. It would be pretty straight forward to do since the 2004 is supplied with a single 12V rail from the ACDC module... Perfect for a 3-cell Lipo replacement I think.

However, why reinvent the wheel...
InductorbackEMF:
Hi,I was thinking the same thing for the RTM3004 same single 12v rail.
May be worth testing the power draw to get a feel of how long it would run with some Lipo cells.

If you do go ahead please say so!

Alex.
NiHaoMike:
If it does require just 12V, a 3S pack with a BMS will indeed work nicely. Certainly easier than on other scopes such as my GDS-1062A that need several DC/DC converters.

Someone modded a Rigol to run on batteries.

I measured the current drawn after boot up to be 3 A idle and 3.4 with all four channels enabled. Voltage is pretty spot on 12V. I measured 11.97V with my DM3068 meter.

Indeed, just a single 12V rail. Nicly broken out from the shield and with a 4-Pin Molex which looks like a smaller version of the 4-pin ATX connector. Probably this one: https://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/1053081204_CRIMP_HOUSINGS.xml.

Thanks Rohde Schwarz  :-+

Edit: Just found the power supply:
