Need help with AM transmitter.
« on: September 24, 2013, 01:52:05 am »
I want to build an AM transmitter that I can tune an old 30's am tube radio into. I would like to have it be able to transmit from inside the radio. I need it to have the ability to play mp3's off an SD card and also receive a fixed FM frequency 93.7 and then transmit on AM. Possibly two separate channels. so you can just tune on the radio and not have to mess with the transmitter. This is a project for my mom. I recently started trying to restore old radios and have one I am working on for her but she wants to be able to listen to her station and it would be nice for her to be able to just play her music on it. I would appreciate any help.

Some of the older radios had external audio input for record players. If it does, you can feed audio directly, without a transmitter.

As for AM transmitter, there are kits, like this one http://www.amazon.com/Ramsey-AM1C-Radio-Transmitter-Kit/dp/B0002NRJCM

A crystal oscillator in the AM band, a resistor + a cap + a short wire = an AM transmitter.
