SeedBoard AVR Dev Board
« on: November 24, 2013, 06:08:24 pm »
So me and my friend got annoyed with how expensive Arduino's are, and how expensive shipping is to the UK. So we made our own dev. board! The link to the article on it is here: http://doayee.co.uk/seedboard/

It is not an Arduino.

It is a 328 board.  Kinda like one of these:

The day Al Gore was born there were 7,000 polar bears on Earth.
Today, only 26,000 remain.

Exactly :) Like I said it's a Dev Board!

It could be classed as an Arduino clone because it runs the Arduino bootloader but at it's heart it is a 328 board like you say

Why are pins on all 4 sides of board.  You can't use it with standard breadboard |O

To help embed it in a project, where you will probably have stuff on all sides of a micro (conserves space), I should have described it as an embeddable micro-controller really, not a dev board! Plus on the official release of it it will have female headers (or none at all if you prefer) :)

It's always good to see people having a go.

However, the name...  When I saw the title I thought it was going to be a question about one of Seeedstudio's boards.  e.g. the Seeeduino etc.  It's kind of like me making a Adaaboard, or SpaarkfunBoard.

I don't understand people who are "sick of embedding an arduino" never to see it again.

If you can program an Arduino, just pop the chip out stick a 10 penny 16mhz resonator on it. ATMega 328 chips are only about 3$. I even picked up a few ATMega 48v chips for a $1 each from Korea.

And there's a high probability that the average person's project might even fit into an ATTiny which some are $1 or less.

With regards to the $3 Atmega, I agree! It is very easy, but many of my friends who are into electronics are a bit scared  of putting one in and bootloading it themselves (although you can buy bootloaded ones) and this is a helpful little board for them! If you don't really like the electronics, and more like the fact you can program something in the real world, then I think pre-done boards are better :) but I agree a $3 arduino chip is a good solution!

A fencing club website is an odd place to find development boards. Looks like they are intended as components for scoring machines, though the websites hardly mention that.

Kits: $35 each kit.

Plus shipping + fully assembled = over $50!

Is it for real?

In terms of interesting arduino designs, check out the Microduino: a cute little thing.

This is why I think why the whole Arduino eco-system is flourishing: there are enough fools who are willing to part with their hard-earned $$$ for anyone to make a killing.

Only if the prospective Arduino buyers had minimum understanding of what's out there, .....

I just got a Arduino Mega clone for 13$ promotion offer , (now 15.50) incl shipping , and usb cable
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wholesale-Electronics-Components-Funduino-Mega-2560-ATmega2560-16AU-Board-USB-Cable-Compatible-with-Arduino-mega-2560/693210081.html

And a Arduino Leonardo clone incl shippping and usb cable for $9.50
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Freeshipping-Leonardo-R3-development-board-Board-USB-Cable-compatible-arduino/1140267592.html

That's not bad ...

Previously i have gotten a duemilanove 2009 clone , that one was "different from the Real one" in that it used a Profilic instead of the FTDI , but works fine
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-BTE-ROBOT-Main-Control-Board-Compatible-with-duemilanove-2009-ATMEGA328-USB-cable/587638761.html

And the above listing for the Pro-Mini , i wouldn't even consider buying the chip
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Version-Pro-Mini-Module-Atmega328-5v-16M-For-Arduino-Compatible/141049209300

Those prices are hard to beat.
