Yes, having a generator and analyzer for SDI would be very very handy indeed. Currently I can only use some of the professional video scalers  I have as SDI sources or sinks to test anything up to 3G-SDI. As a source, they are great as the configuration is very flexible,  but as an SDI sink, they suck, because when receiving anything slightly out of whack they turn blank with "no video input" and no other info to go with it.

148.5 should be easy to get from the baseline video ref of 27 MHz, but that 1000/1001 stuff is beyond annoying. 

I hope I'll get some spare time now to try the SD-SDI on my Cyclone IV board, I think you may have seen the thread already, in case not you're of course welcome to share any thoughts. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/fpga/understanding-sdi-video-data-format/
