Source for Enclosures
« on: January 30, 2017, 04:10:27 pm »
Working on a project that I would like to eventually commercialize. I'm looking for enclosures for the project, something similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/0-120VDC-0-1A-Single-Output-Bench-Power-Supply-with-Digital-Dispaly-CSI12001X-/221720975826?hash=item339f9999d2:g:d2cAAOSwEK9T7i4i
I found something similar to this but the cost is extremely high in the order of the $40-50, that puts the cost for the project too high. Do you guys have any idea were I can get, stylish enclosures for lower prices?

Without knowing the size and your requirements of what you want this is a difficult question to answer. There are many project boxes available domestically and overseas.

If you are looking for something around the same size a Hammond 1598ESGY might be about right. (The stock picture does not accurately show the dimensions) https://octopart.com/1598esgy-hammond-46506

I'll just leave this here: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/manufacture/electronic-enclosuremachining-supplier-list/  :)
The size is about what is shown on the link, maybe 4" wide about 5 or 6" hight and 5 or 6" deep. I know that there are a ton of enclosures from companies like Hammond, but most of them do not resemble what is on the link, those are good for prototypes but for a small commercial application don't look good.
I was probably looking for someone to tell me what they have done in a custom or semi-custom enclosures.

EDIT: For instance https://evatron.com/product-category/plastic-enclosures-desktop-enclosures/desk-consoles-wt-series/
Thanks for the list, I actually bought an enclosure from evatron that I'm using for my prototype but doesn't resemble what I'm looking for. The problem with them is that custom prices are too high, if I remember correctly started in the $90 in the number of enclosures that I think I going to need.

Kind of funny this thing, I'm actually in the exact same position as yourself.
I'm looking for something simple and cheap but anything is fine is way above budget (aka, half the entire BOM cost)!

My next step will be alibaba and all the minor hell that follows...
I don't remember right now where the eez-h24005 project did theirs. Quality seems very good.

EDIT: They're using Economica EP1153220 L 320 x P 200 it seems.

To make prototypes is all kind of boxes that can be used, but trying to find something close to what I envision this thing to look like very difficult. I thought that will all those cheap Chinese power supplies that look the same, like the one that I linked at the beginning, it will be easy to find the box they used, but that has proven next to impossible. I think I wore out the internet trolling up and down.
