July 2019 issue of Silicon chip in the Circuit Notebook section has a diagram for a 74LSxx series logic tester build around the DS89C430-MNL microprocessor. This is my first foray into programming chips so on a steep learning curve. The DS89C430-MNL is not a cheap chip and from my reading is pin and instruction set compatible with the older and much cheaper 80C52. Am I demonstrating my total ignorance :-DD in thinking I can substitute the 80C52 and all will be fine? |

Do you have source code or just object code? If you have source there is a better chance you can account for any hardware differences between the two chips. There are a lot of IC tester projects on the web, and you can make one with just an Arduino. Both of these projects have an extensive test database: https://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-IC-Tester/ https://github.com/akshaybaweja/Smart-IC-Tester For an historical perspective on IC testers, have a look at: http://www.computernerdkev.heliohost.org/ictesters/index.htm |

Hi Ledtester, Yes, I do have the source code for it. Thanks, I will have a read of the links you kindly provided. |

If you are looking for the tester, not for fun to make, it's an easier patch available https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20191005105250&origin=y&SearchText=TL866II+&switch_new_app=y |

Thanks, Ecdir That's a nifty tool, the goal is fun of the build but I do like the XGecu TL866ii plus -p6 I collected a whole bunch of TTLs way back thinking they will come in handle one day. I have decided to have a go at making an 8bit breadboard computer and what to do a tidy up on my inventory first. |
