Car alternator slip ring assembly would give you two feedthroughs, enough for combined power and comms.

Also just a suggestion have a Laser cut or 3D printed in clear gear as part of the design and rim drive it. It then leaves the entire center free for your control. The 'traditional' real deal will have a motor or drive box somewhere on the base. The gear teeth will also produce some extra bling to your LED's .

The main benefit is really simple gearing and drive.

To cut the edge of the wheel of the ferris wheel with the teeth of a gear, to attach it to a motor with another gear, is a possibility. But first I want to try the PCB motor with printed coils on the stator and neodymium magnets on the rotor. With a PCB engine, I make it myself, it seems simple and cheap.

Besides, I am thinking of ideas to make linear motors printed on PCB. Peter's video, moving magnets on a PCB with printed coils, has awakened my imagination. I found it very interesting.

I do not rule out trying to see if I can transmit supply and data with PCB printed coils, I could use the same board to create the motor and transmit signals, each with its coils printed separately. Three concentric printed coils for tension, data and clock, and on the periphery the printed coils for the stepper motor with neodymium magnets.

I don't need a very powerful engine, the weight of the ferris wheel is very light and if the axle is supported on ball bearings, I think that with very little power I can move the ferris wheel.

On the internet I have found other systems to transmit power and data voltages. One is by capacity, instead of by induction, another connects metal surfaces using liquid mercury instead of solid metal contacts, and another does it by optical fiber.

I'm currently making a slip-ring based FPV camera servo pan/tilt system. 1 servo 1 camera down the slip ring.
We will see how that works out, any glitches will show up as servo jitter or bad camera video.
Should be pretty obvious.   I have a 2nd fixed camera on a 3way video switch that i can switch to on the fly if i get any glitches, so im not too worried.
