Smallest HD44780 compatible lcd
joseph.anand:
For one of my projects which uses the Hammond RM2015M enclosyre I was looking for the smallest possible alphanumeric LCD. I found two
1. Everbouquet MC0802A-SGR-4, 8x2 LCD without backlight, dimensions 25.0mm(W) x 17.5mm(H) x 4.3mm(D), price around 10-12USD
2. Oriole 16216-8SL, 16x2 LCD with LED backlight, dimensions 53mm(W) x 20mm(H) x 8mm(D) price 5-6USD
While I like the Everbouquet display, the lack of mounting holes was a problem, which forced me to try out the Oriole LCD. If anyone knows of other small(physically) alphanumeric displays post a reply here.

this one is bigger, but cheaper and has mounting holes
you can remove the bottom part and have only 2 mounting holes instead of 4 and get some space.

You want the "smallest possible", but how many characters/lines do you need?
If you need them in large quantity ask one of the many custom display manufacturers.

Too big physically. Costs around 2USD here in India.

A two line display with 8-16 characters/line.
I did check with one of the manufacturers (Oriole) whose prices are reasonable. For custom LCDs they have a initial development charge of 1500-2000USD. Even for a modified PCB it is not cheap unless I place an order for 2000 nos.
