SMD glue for bottom layer parts
« on: December 09, 2015, 04:25:29 am »
Looking for a heat-cure glue for bonding bottom-layer SMD parts to the board.  Don't want them to drop off when I heat the top layer, or put the board on a hot plate...  Looking for something for manual assembly.  I've only found two-part heat-cure epoxies, and I'm sure these are the bee's knees for mass production, but not so great for manual use.  (Or are they?)  Am I missing something obvious?  :-/O

One part thermal cure (~120C - 150C for a few minutes) is the norm I think, and it usually some red stuff.

It's pretty nasty, so make sure the place you buy it from can actually ship it to you. In Australia, no-one would ship it over the ocean, but I ended up finding some from RS locally.

Loctite Chipbonder 3609 is one part. I just ordered a syringe but have not yet received it. Planning to use it with my pneumatic dispenser for manual application.

Hope it works.

Ah, thanks for the pointers!  Ordered some Chipbonder 3621 (10ml, $33!  Yikes!) to try out...

Yes, it is not cheap. I suspect the product will go bad before I use it all. I only have one PCB with heavy parts on both sides.

What parts are you needing this for? Have you already checked to see if the surface tension of the solder is strong enough?
