SOIC-DIP converters?
« on: September 29, 2013, 03:51:00 am »
I have seen this one, and am about to buy 32 of them, due to the fact that the price is amazing. http://www.dipmicro.com/store/PCB-SOIC-SSOP16. Are there any other ones that may be better and are roughly equivalent in price?
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

your link doesn't work but i found what i think you're looking at..

double sided circuit board gets as low as 18 cents per square inch, so these kinds of adaptors are like printing money.

i'm looking for a LLP-32 to .05" pin spacing, i can't find anything cheap.

Try this link: http://www.dipmicro.com/store/PCB-SOIC-SSOP16

It's good the website provides pricing in different currencies.

I have used that exact SOIC to DIP adapter from your link before. I can say it works well, if you've got a very steady hand to solder the tiny SOIC contacts. You might also try soldering the chip on in an oven with solder paste, then solder the DIP headers by hand. A couple of the DIP solder joints are precariously close to another SOIC contact, so make sure you don't accidentally bridge them. Though, I had no trouble with this myself. That adapter should serve you well.

Edit: Should specify, this is in response to GingGangGooly's link.

I bought a lot of these kind of adaptor/converters from Shenzhen when I last went to China in Feb. Similar to these

NOTE: I've never bought from this seller. I somehow stumbled on his shop and saved in my Saved Seller cuz he's got some stuff I need want to buy later

Just a word of caution, I've had terrible times ordering from Futurlec. It took ages for them to ship me my order, and in the meantime, there was very, very little customer service support. No communication from them whatsoever to let me know anything about the status of my order.

Edit: I would also add, the nice thing about the ones in GingGangGooly's link is that they are 300 mil width, where the other ones linked here are wider. This is nice if you need to squeeze things down in size, but it won't work unless you're using narrow SOIC's.

This is true; it may take a few weeks.  I've always gotten everything I've ordered from them however.

Our company Capital Advanced Technologies makes SURFBOARDS SMD to SIP adapters and surface mount breadboards. They are available from Digi-key, Newark, Farnell, Ect.

I have the dipmicro boards and I must say that I'm not super enamored with them. The pads are far too short for hand-soldering. The pads are basically exactly as wide as the chip, leaving no place for a solder fillet.

Futurelec's service kind of blows, but when your order goes off without a hitch, you get your stuff. They have a very wide range of SMD adapters and they're cheap. The last post reminded me of their products. Dipmicro's SOIC/SSOP adapter boards are nice in that they're 0.3" DIP wide, but they're just a pain to use.

With Futurelec make sure everything is shipped on the same order. They will charge shipping for each back ordered item. I had to refuse a 50C item because it had a $10 shipping and handling charge :( otherwise is ok. Things are cheap if they have what you need in the quantities you want.

I've been forced to cancel 3 out of 4 orders with Futurlec because they hold the order for backordered items and usually don't even tell you. They also seem to make no attempt to restock missing parts any faster than they would normally. I've waited over a month more than once before demanding a refund. If anything you're looking for is back-ordered, don't bother waiting for them. Get what you can and GO!
