ST L7987 buck converter for 48->12V supply
« on: February 06, 2020, 06:46:40 pm »
I need a (40V~55V)->12V supply at 2A that will power 12V motors and 2 other DCDC converters to 3.3V and 7V that need 200mA each. Looking at ST's L7987 it seems perfect, but a few things stand out. It has a voltage-mode control loop that externally compensated. I like that it's external compensation since I want to tune it to play well with downstream buck converters, but heard bad things about voltage control loops here.

It does have a cycle-by-cycle current limit (doesn't play a role in control), as well as foldback, but it seems to be disabled during the soft-start phase  :-//

Has anyone used one of these parts with success?
