Been looking at boat trolling motors lately for my small skiff. Apparently the latest thing on the market is a GPS "anchor" or "spot lock" where the motor steers itself and changes thrust to lock itself in position. They cost upwards of $2000-$3500, yet old manual trolling motors can be purchased for under $100. There is definitely a market for a young engineer to make an upgrade kit for DIY people. Not sure of the patent implications, but this is essentially drone technology. I would imagine a GPS chip, microcontroller, and PWM speed controller can be under $100. Rotation of the unit is the hardest part when you want it to be saltwater corrosion resistant. Anyway, thought I would throw the idea out there if anyone wants to explore it. I would do it myself if I weren't so busy with other projects.
