Supply current for battery devices

Hi :)
Are there some known, general ranges for constant (or mean) current draw a device can safely work with particular battery combinations?
ie. 2xAAA or 2xAA, etc.

I assume this info is available for each type in battery datasheets, but is there a general rule considering the worst type or brand batteries you’re prepared to use with the device.
