RPi On/Off Switch
« on: January 31, 2016, 06:10:52 pm »
I found this page out there with a design for an on/off switch for the Raspberry Pi. The circuit is for 5V power supply but I'm going to use it for 12V. I'll have a step down from 12V to the 5V but the 5V in the circuit pictured isn't going to get to an RPi I/O Pin so my using it for 12V should not cause a problem.

A much simpler way to completely shut off all power can be accomplished using a simple BJT or P-Chan MOSFET latching circuit, no relays involved.

We use AP2411S-13. It's a cheap little IC that is a high side switch and over current protection. Works great.

Thanks for both of those ideas both of which are much better then a relay. I'll look at both. A single chip high side switch sounds great but I'll have a P channel in my kit bag I can use.
