Switchable USB Hub
« on: October 27, 2019, 11:28:45 am »
Hi guys
I bought this switchable USB hub thingy at the car boot sale this morning.  To be honest I don't know why I bought it, I don't have any particular use for it, it just looked kinda.... cool... and I had 5 euros lying around in my pocket.

Now I don't have 5 euros - I have this thing instead lol  :P  It has 7 individually switchable USB sockets and an external PSU connector

Somehow I think this must be useful around the workshop but I have no clear idea why it would be lol.

Any ideas (good or otherwise) what it would be really useful for?

I suspect that is not really a data hub but just a bunch of USB charging ports. Can you confirm that?

No it's not

My PC detects it as Generic USB Hub.

If I plug a flash drive in and then turn the corresponding switch, the blue LED over the switch turns on and it detects the flash drive and I can access it.

If I then turn that switch off the light goes out flash drive disappears again

What's this thing meant for?  :-//

So it is a hub which can be used the same as any other hub with the added convenience that you can disconnect a device without having to physically unplug it.

It only switches power. So self-powered devices still work.

Agreed

And for sure it's nice gadget for €5 and it lights up in blue over the switch(es) you turn a switch on and looks as cool as f#ck   But why?
