Title: Switching HV to a load with?
Post by: Quarlo Klobrigney on November 13, 2017, 08:12:49 pm
So I'm looking to switch a HV source to a load, but otherwise remain in a infinite open condition when off. The load will be switched to ground, LV or HV or open. Think of a SP10T rotary switch. I've tried to work out the permutations in my head and on paper, but it all looks like an impossible feat. Does anyone have an idea on how to accomplish this? :-//

Depending on the requirements (and your budget) you may want to look at Behlke devices - basically high voltage (up to 150kV) solid state switches with insane parameters. http://www.behlke.com/ (http://www.behlke.com/)

what voltage?

Too much in the amperage department, but nice stoof: "Look at Behlke devices"
I'm looking for no more than 1KV at say 1/2 amp and less. A see-saw arrangement, i.e. low V high A, high A low V.
If you folks don't think it viable, I may have to go to a switch...

Hi, how fast would you need to switch the HV ?

If it's doesn't need to be realy fast, you could just use a couple of HV relays (one to ground, one to HV and one to LV):

I followed the link, although no pricing is given and one must contact one of their sales reps (and answer all those questions) no thanks. However they do have a solution. I've been down the sales rep rabbit hole before and wasted lots of time to come up with "sorry no stock". :horse:
As far as switching time, not fast at all. DC to 1 second. Not fussy at all.

Search Ebay for "high voltage relay".   Here's a 5KV 10A relay.  Looks like he has 98 of them available...
