pete g:
hi all, I just completed an esr meter project. when testing, the lcd display, shows various symbols. there is an M, A RECTANGULAR BOX, a symbol that looks like an S and lastly the letters SZ. each of these symbols is followed by a numerical value. can someone explain what this is about? the project I made, can be found here: http://www.electronics-lab.com/project/advanced-lc-meter/   the symbols appear singularly with a number, according to the capacitor properties being tested. I hope this makes sense. thanks.

I assume M is an inductor (approximation of an inductor symbol in pixels), box is a resistor, and what is shown in the picture is a capacitor.

You can probably figure that out based on the unit of measurement also shown.
pete g:
hi, thank you for your response. I think M refers to memory? the box I think is tan delta? its kind of strange that nowhere in the article does it tell you what they mean.
DaJMasta:
Are these symbols pictured in the pictures on the linked site or are these not pictured?  It's really hard to tell what you're talking about from a description alone, but seeing the context of the output should actually make it pretty clear.

Since these displays are being driven by ascii, you could also look through the source code for the symbols in question and see if they make more sense in a higher resolution font.
ataradov:
I did not notice the bottom pictures at first. I have no idea what those "m15", "m20", "sz2" and "sz3" mean.

Symbol that "looks like an s" is a delta, if I'm looking at the same symbol.

You really should attach pictures here and circle the symbols you don't understand.
