Testing a Custom Built Light Strip BEFORE Blowing my Computer up.

I want to test my custom built (soldered) strip before smoke testing them on my motherboard.
I'm going to check for continuity and current, but will that do it? Or, is there something else I should check also?

Check for shorts between ground and power.
Check for shorts between ground and any signal that will be driven by the PC CPU.

Basically, you don't want to short the PC power supply or have the CPU try and drive a ground short high or a VCC short low.

I'm less worried about the PSU unit. They are pretty well protected. I'm worried more about toasting the RGB fets. So I want to test the strips when I get done soldering them. The only thing I know to do is run an AMP and Continuity check on them. I'll also check the MB riser for correct voltage.
Anything else?

I'm talking about testing the strip itself to make sure it isn't shorted out in a way that will cause the Fets on the Motherboard's RGB circuit to melt.
Would just testing the strip with continuity and amperage do it, or are there other things that could case my MB's RGB fets to go "Up In Smoke" that continuity and amperage would not show?
