optoisolator aging

I understand these age and the CTR changes. Do they age when in storage, or only when they run/get hot?
Before I start the repair of a 25 year old CRT monitor, I wanna know if I should look there first.
Hoarder of 8-bit Commodore relics and 1960s Tektronix 500-series stuff. Unconventional interior decorator.

They don't tend to degrade much in storage unless it is very very hot.
