The Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer
(1/1)
ikrase:
I've finally bought the first parts to my Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer build: some small air variable caps.

Was originally planning to to build my own 300 KHz to 3MHz (approximately) amplifier - roughly 40W and using Class AB probably. Maybe an IRF510 amp.

However I see there are some economical amps of this type on eBay, though most have a bit higher frequency rating that might need toroid rewind.

I see that logarithmic power detector amps are also available as eBay Modules.

If you are still working on this project, you might want to check out US patent 5613294.  It describes an implementation of a quadrupole mass spectrometer, and it has a pretty detailed description of the electronic circuits used for rf generation, with a circuit diagram.
