JLC SMT though hole components ?? - Do they actually mount them?
« on: February 16, 2021, 12:49:33 pm »
Hello,

I was just researching assembly for one of my projects so i went and searched "Headers" in the JLCSMT library and found though hole components.
https://jlcpcb.com/parts/componentSearch?searchTxt=header

Anyone tried ordering a assembly with though hole components, do they actually solder them or are they just in the box so you can solder them yourself?
Specificly i found C124386 which is a Pin Header 8 2 Straight 2.54mm header which really caught my attention.

At my job the thru hole connectors and other thru hole parts  pass thru an wave soldering machine, or we solder them by hand if needed ?

I did not use it but juste made a pcb with come component and they charge a fee for those parts and a soldering fee per led so yes they install them by hand.

Exactly!
I wrote to JLC yesterday just to be sure.
They started hand soldering service a short time ago.
That is just awesome!

Yes, but JLC SMT didn't give you access to that before. It is something all new they have added recently.

This is all very new.  I have yet to see a report from anyone who has used it.  I have a lot of questions. Is there a TH equivalent of the CPL file? Are there conventions for the center of a TH part (Kicad uses pin 1 of connectors, is that it?). A number of parts do not have an obvious center given in their datasheets - like USB connectors (even SMT ones).

When JLCPCB added the TH stuff, I asked about guidelines and they said they were working on them. Haven't seen anything yet.

I didn't yet run an actual job by them, but I uploaded and fitted a PCB including a USB connector. They charge a fixed setup fee plus a fee per solder joint. I assume that they assemble those parts by hand.
Everybody likes gadgets. Until they try to make them.

Yes, by hand for the TH parts, I believe.  Does that mean no additional information beyond BOM is needed?   Just make sure there is a clearly visible part designator on the PCB and they will do the right thing? Maybe I will try a simple board with a couple of different TH parts to see how it goes.

My point of confusion is how SMD connectors are done - by hand?  I don't see a center point in any of the SMD USB connector datasheets that I looked at. How does one provide a correct CPL entry for PNP?

I added rj-45 jack using easyeda and it show in the 3d smd preview correctly so I guess if you use easyeda they will know where to place it!   For smd usb connector I don’t. See why it would not be placed by the pick and place and reflow soldered?

Interesting. What's the LCSC part number?
