Triangular LEDs
« on: September 29, 2019, 11:04:36 am »
Does anybody know where I can find some Triangular LEDs say on Alibooboo or ePay that are reliable and don't have a square base?
Gooogle in their infinite wisdom has broken their Boolean search functions :palm: , and the others don't know what an individual LED is :wtf: . They come up as LED light bulbs. Triangular is a term unknown.

Just saw a vendor (wrong part) with the name molesmell ! :) Why!

Through hole ones are still relatively common on ebay, no problem with the search term Triangular LED if you look under electronic components. No idea about smd ones.

I'm afraid not here. I quote "0 results for electronic components...."
Could you post a number that corresponds to the specifications that I'm loooking for? Perhaps I can train ePay with a "related" or "similar" search suggestions.

You are correct. When I was a young lad they were. Too bad they don't include the specifications. I can't quite tell what the scale is trying to measure in the picture. Those look a bit big. Thanks for trying.

Not as common as they used to be, and a lot more expensive.

Reichelt electronic still has few red ones: https://www.reichelt.de/led-triangle-5-6x4-9-mm-leaded-red-8-mcd-100-kbt-l-323idt-p231071.html?GROUPID=3023&START=0&OFFSET=100&LANGUAGE=EN&&r=1 . Including the datasheet.

But probably that will be some kind of last order as it is denoted as special offer.

Probably the best way would be to use a light-pipe to get your shape you would like.

Unfortunately, "Bargain Item! Limited amount available."and it's only in red. I need an assortment of colours. Also a light pipe although a good idea won't fit in the application.

Yes, I remember they had all colors and also wedge-shaped LEDs in stock couple of years before. If you lookup the partnumber there's only another shop having them. With the same result.

Not sure how many you need, but is carefully grind them to shape an option (careful with ESD and the heat)? Or as said light pipes could be an option. Not sure if a pllexiglass rod would be sufficient to guide the light and provide a sufficient light output.

Official BOLO: The dimensions of the suspects are 5.6mm on a side, with a triangular shaped head and known to change their appearance from red to green to yellow.
Persons seeing suspects fitting this description, are to apprehend and hold for interrogation.

LNG312GKG
RS components showing stock.

I'm guessing those are like the last on the planet.

That is probably a LED pipe, not an LED.

Well they are kind of qualifiers. The other links you showed me are ones that I have already seen and are disqualified as having a square base. See my crude picture above. The requirements are quite compact. How and what the project is, I can't say. Square LEDs won't fit. But thanks for trying. Now how to order from RS if they are the only game in town. That's another hurdle to get over.

Two things I know.  The plastic through hole LEDs grinds well, we had over 10,000 T1-3/4 packages CNC ground to a special shape for one project about 10 years ago.  Need to short the leads before grinding though.  Next up, about 5,000 to  10,000 pieces of one color is the minimum enough to justify bringing out the old  triangular mold.  Talk to Kingbright or Lumex, they like this sort of project.

I appreciate that they may mill down to a dimension, but at this point the investment to accomplish the end result is most likely out of reach.
So unless I can find a ready-made solution at a price point the project will be put on hold indefinitely.
Thanks all for your suggestions :horse: .
