I recently decided to adapt a design I found online for a 60kHz crystal filter that requires a 10pF trimmer cap. However, when I went to look for suitable parts on Mouser and DigiKey it seems that the vast majority of them are now marked EOL (end of life), or no recommended for new designs. There are a few "new" parts, but most are significantly more expensive than the now obsolete parts. I realize this is the digital age, but don't trimmer caps still have a place in the world? Are trimmer caps going away because no one uses them anymore, or is there another reason manufacturers such as MuRata don't seem to want to make them any more?
