trimpot modification
« on: March 14, 2019, 05:46:46 am »
hi,  i have just realized this useful modification
you can solder a small resistor the brass trimpot so you don't need a screwdriver every time
first polish the brass bit with a dremel or file
use a small size resistor so it solders quickly so it dont overheat the plastic

That's an interesting idea!

However, trim-pots are made to be adjusted once and be left alone.  Maybe occasional calibrations but surely not a substitute for a proper multi-turn potentiometers.  I have seen them get very lose and not hold a value.  Also, you don't want accidental changes.  The idea is great, though.

A SCREW DRIVER is actually not the right tool for the job.

What you want is a trim pot adjustment tool. They are like a screw driver with a recess around the spade bit, like a socket wrench thats round, so you don't slip while you are adjusting them.

And check the datasheet to see how many adjustments your trimpot is rated for. For long term use you want a big potentiometer.

I do like the idea though.
