Arctic grade stranded Cat6 patch cables
« on: January 21, 2023, 09:39:45 pm »
I've been trying to find a 2m or 3m Cat6 stranded patch cable that will remain flexible at low temperatures (IOW Arctic grade).

So far no success.

Does anyone have good source?

Thanks
David

If I remember correctly, the stuff we use at work is Belden 7931A. It'll bend without breaking even at -40C or colder (yes, we do get these temperatures where I live several times per winter).

Note that at room temperature this stuff is not as flexible as standard CAT6 cable, but the main thing is it is still somewhat flexible in extreme cold temps and most importantly can be handled and bent without damage.

I haven't seen pre-made patch cables using this type of cable or similar, so you'll most likely have to make your own, but that's not hard to do.

The catch is of course that I don't want to spring for a 305m drum :)

I would also be concerned about the plastic connectors and device sockets going brittle or suss contact at such temperatures

and the soldering/solder supporting them

= good luck with that  |O
