Tweeting earthquake alarm
« on: July 19, 2011, 01:36:35 pm »
I saw this on Gizmodo this morning.

http://gizmodo.com/5822319/a-chilean-teen-tweets-about-earthquakes-better-than-his-whole-government

I love how he took what was already there and hacked it to do what was needed.  A Government is slow to do anything, and most likely wasteful as well.  I know the US Government would probably commission studies costing millions, have review boards for the studies, a review board for the review board, system concept meetings.... you get the point.  This is a perfect example of what one Maker, one hacker, can do.

typical

Just like the British government, they manage to pay £20 for a light bulb worth £0.20, I hate to think what would happen if they tried to setup a project like that, they'd start by spending millions just by default
