Voltage Inverter?

Hi all,

I have a linear sensor which acts like a pot in that +24V supply across it gives an output 0-2.5V at the wiper.

Is it possible to invert the output (somehow) so that it runs 2.5V to 0V instead of 0 to 2.5V?

So 0V out of the sensor I want 2.5V and 2.5V out of the sensor I want 0V.

I have tried reversing the supply however the sensor must have some built-in clamping going on to prevent reverse supply connection.

The datasheet suggests the sensor can either be supplied as a simple potentiometer or with a 4-20mA output.  If you have the basic potentiometer model, why are you only getting 2.5v maximum at the wiper with a 20v supply?  Do you have the 4-20mA version?

Good question mikerj, I shall confirm what is here with a meter in series with the output.

You could just read the model code of the device (assuming it's readable/still present) and check against the datasheet.

Turns out it indeed is a 4-20mA output. Good call. No label available unfortunately.
