UK source of solder paste?
« on: December 27, 2013, 08:55:38 pm »
Anyone got any suggestions on where to get (preferably lead free) solder paste from in the UK? I only intend using it for a few prototypes, not production, so don't need huge quantities of it.

Rapid have small packs....

...or is that too small for your needs?

Thanks, that would probably be enough - I'll know when I start using it! A bit expensive for such a small amount though.

I have used this with success: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121033065108

The lead free (why?!) version: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121033067714

Love to use branded stuff, but £30 is a hell of an outlay for something with a shelf life.

Thanks, Monkeh, those prices look very reasonable. I mentioned lead free because I may end up selling the prototype to a customer and will have to abide by the regs.

I really wouldn't worry about that, unless the clustomer is likely to actually test it ;)

I'd tend to avoid general distributors like Rapid for paste as it may have been hanging around for a while, and may not have been stored at a low temp.
Youtube channel:Taking wierd stuff apart. Very apart.
Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.
Day Job: Mostly LEDs

I'm sure my customer won't test it, but I did sign a declaration!

Where do you get yours from, Mike?
