I picked up a bag of 10 of these in a 'free' box at a garage sale.
Has anyone any idea what they are intended for. The plug is about 5.5mm ID with a 2mm bifurcated pin, connected to screw terminations labelled + & -.
The quality is quite reasonable, with 'lantern' type contacts inside the shell.
-
It's a DC power connector. Most likely 2.1mm
Screw terminals are for connecting the wires. The + on the top connects through to the center pin.
-
5.5/2.1 (most common size) barrel jack socket to screw terminal. Although I've never seen a bifurcated socket pin like that. Interesting.

Thanks for the replies. Only Antipodeans awake at this hour !
Of course it is a female inline power connector - I feel silly now.
I have just wandered across to my workshop and pulled out the drawer marked 'DC power connectors' and mated the thing up.
I blame the Fat Yak beer, and I was fixated on plugging the connector into a panel socket...
All the best for this year.

These connectors are apparently very popular with CCTV installations. Even Amazon carries them (male and female), search "cctv dc power".
They're handy to have around along with the BNC to two-terminal version.
-
They are often used for LED strip lighting too. Quite useful, I've always liked screwed terminals.

It's a very useful sort of item for attaching all sorts of stuff to repurposed wall warts. My favorite is turning PC case fans into very good mini desk fans.
-
Pretty common item when dealing with security cameras. They come in male and female.

2.1mm cctv

That socket pin is split like that so it will work for both a 5.5 x 2.5 and also a 5.5 x 2.1.
-
They are really usefull. I've wired them up to those very cheap LM2596 DC-DC's to make any voltage from any adapter pack.
-
Have 120 of them at work on our cctv system

Thanks for all the info.
I now have one permanently attached to my bench DMM for easy testing of 'Wallwart' voltages. The rest have gone into the drawer !
I also realised that I didn't have a national flag on my header profile. Added.

I screw those 2 pin plugs I got from DC power pack and make all kinds of conversion adapter.
