Title: USB 3.0 hub cheaper than redrivers?
Post by: technix on March 09, 2018, 05:25:58 pm
I was designing some item that required some signal reshaping on USB 3.0, so I am looking at signal redrivers. To the best of what I can find, redriver chips are much more expensive than a 4-port hub. I know that using a hub here works too as it stores and retransmits the data, but still I was baffled by the pricing. Why is it so?

(Although I am expanding the design so I am not wasting ports on the hub, besides the original port I am also bringing out the three additional ports, one as USB Type-A, one as USB Type-C, and the other being used for internal firmware upgrading.)

I'd guess hub chips have way higher production numbers.
