Phone Caller ID module
« on: March 12, 2013, 05:22:28 am »
Hello,

I am looking for a simple and easy to build Caller ID module (name and number) for the north american phone system. DC powered with a battery backup if possible.

Thank you.

Buy a cheap cordless DECT phone, all integrated into there. Cheaper than buying the parts. You can pick it up new for under $30.

You could probably also do this with an STM32F0DISCOVERY board or any other low-end microcontroller dev board and some passives. It's just 300 baud FSK. Hacking an analogue modem might work too, if you can find one that actually has a UART onboard and isn't all DSP. Hacking a phone is probably still cheapest and nicest from a UI perspective.

An old modem (or embedded modem module) may do what you want

Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.
