Title: USB PD/QC Trigger IC - anybody know what these A/Exp modules use?
Post by: sleemanj on June 04, 2022, 12:44:11 pm
Simple question, these dip-switch-selectable modules you find on Aliexpress etc...

Anybody know what IC they might use?

Answering my own question, I think they are

XSP06 (https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a21wu.12321156-tw.go-detail.1.5c7915b4I4hjEi&id=643737414738)

and I also found another one

FastSOC FS312  (https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a21wu.12321156-tw.go-detail.1.1838cf29JbgVHp&id=634838304759) English Datasheet (http://43.138.174.208/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/FASTSOC-FS312-datasheetv1.4.pdf) (from here (http://fastsoc.com/?page_id=143), I've saved a copy locally if this goes away)

I couldn't find either of these at LCSC, indeed only one Taobao seller.  The Fastsoc one looks pretty nice actually with really wide voltage tolerance on DP/M and CC1/2 so basically no external protection or regulation required.  That seller seems to specialise in these USB trigger/decoy/protocol type chips (https://shop214219750.world.taobao.com/category-1548015337.htm)

There is this similar sort of thing available at LCSC

LDR6328 (https://lcsc.com/product-detail/USB-ICs_Legendary-LDR6328_C2919630.html)

but it will just negotiate the highest available I think (with a max of 12v or 9v depending on if you pull pin 2 down or not).

Here is another

IP2721 (https://lcsc.com/product-detail/Interface-Specialized_INJOINIC-IP2721_C603176.html)

no stock at LCSC but looks like it has been in the past, might be out of production as not mentioned on the manufacturer's site.  Has been used in an open source project (https://oshwlab.com/ecenuig/ts100-usb-c-board_copy) previously.

I guess its CH224K.
Its used to request fixed voltage(5/9/12/15/20V) from smart phone charger.
Supported protocol include PD/QC/BC2.1 etc.

If its for hobby use, its often easier and likely even cheaper to just buy these boards and then solder them on to your design.

Looks like the CH224K mentioned above is available for ~50c though: https://www.lcsc.com/product-detail/USB-ICs_WCH-Jiangsu-Qin-Heng-CH224K_C970725.html (https://www.lcsc.com/product-detail/USB-ICs_WCH-Jiangsu-Qin-Heng-CH224K_C970725.html)
Or possibly less from Ali: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004305959345.html (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004305959345.html)

FWIW, I used the FS312

it does what it says on the tin.  Voltage change works on the fly as well.

I don't know if the 5.1k resistors are required or are handled internally, but there's space for them on my PCB just in case, my supplies all worked without them.
