Sizing project boxes
« on: August 06, 2016, 05:19:34 pm »
Hi, can anyone give me some pointers for sizing a project box ? never done it before.

My PCB is 70mm x 140mm  so I got a project box which was 80mm x 150mm thinking that would be fine. Unfortunately what the supplier doesn't say is that the screw holes for the lid are best part of 10mm thick each. So the PCB won't fit !

Look at the drawings to confirm there's enough space inside the enclosure for the PCB.

You're quire lucky you have a choice. Most of the time I have to design the PCB to fit the enclosure. This can make laying it out more challenging, especially when I have to take account or the height of the components and some areas of the PCB can't have any components or tracks on the outer layers, as it will be mounted to a metal surface.

What Hero999 said.
Get drawings/datasheets/cad files for the enclosure and involve it early in your design.
