Do DC-DC converters work ok if there is a large amount of ripple on the input?

For example, if the input voltage momentarily drops below some threshold does it go into some kind of shutdown mode, or does it continue powering itself from the energy stored in the output circuit and wait for the input voltage voltage to climb back above the threshold before it resumes.
