weatherproofing board to board connector
« on: July 20, 2022, 11:51:26 am »
I have this idea to make a device with a (cheap!) ip20 or ip65 enclosure protecting the pcba from direct weather influences so the pcba will not be wet, but it can be damp.
The pcba will be protected using conformal coating, but there will be a small 10pin board to board connector for an optional small io board.

My problem is the board to board connector: how can i protect that from oxidation in the long run?
I looked at dielectric grease but i do not have any experience with that. Would that work in the long run?
Also, what b2b connector is suitable for protecting with dielectric grease (i assume small pin-holes are not suitable) ? Any suggestions?

thanks

I'd use good quality brand gold plated connectors. If both boards are in the same enclosure, this should do the trick.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I would not have thought that would do the trick, but kind of logical.
Thanks.

FYI: i looked further in using dielectric grease: that is indeed not advisable for using ON contacts because it can reduce contact conduction.
