Bench supplies in 2015...
« on: February 11, 2015, 12:39:55 am »
Back in 2011 Dave talked about bench power supplies in his video #168 - How to set up an electronics lab. He gave some features for his ideal power supply, but didn't specifically name a design, kit or manufactured supply as a favorite.

Considering his thoughts about multi-turn pots, dual tracking, mains isolated, adjustable current, 15V - 1A, load switch, etc., did or does a favorite bench power supply emerge as the "go to" supply for hobbyists?

I've searched and read lots of threads here, but haven't found the "Hakko FX888D" of power supplies.

Is there one in 2015? [Thanks for any help you can provide.]

Used agilent or power designs since you're in America.
E3610A for example.

Otherwise, its still the Chinese Korad style if your buying new, or possibly the Rigol 832 if you need the features.

Keep in mind what you need the power supply for. If its microcontrollers, you wont need big power/voltage/current necessarily.
You may not need dual tracking for amplifier/opamps.

Most just need current control, and possibly output toggle switch.

Thanks for the info...nowlan. With cellphones & computer accessories changing every ten minutes, I'd assumed bench power supplies might have changed a bit over several years. Your advice helps.
